Need to update this blog

A year ago had decided on posting all updates on Facebook group "Jungle Mangal Residents". One year later, feel that the blog also needs to be updated. Problem with Facebook group is that only Facebook users can check updates. Besides it becomes difficult to view past updates in FB group while it is easier on the blog. So 2011 should see revival of this blog.

Skywalk at Bhandup Station

The authorities are building a skywalk on the station road in Bhandup.

Traffic on station road is restricted to private vehicles only. Autos and buses are not permitted to ply on station road. It is hoped that once the skywalk is completed, congestion on the road will be reduced.

Wonder how many people will use the skywalk? Personally, it would have been better if a flyover was built and the vehicular traffic was diverted to the flyover. Most people use station road as a market and would continue to use it even after the skywalk is built.

If the hawkers are shifted to the skywalk, pedestrians my also use it. However, the shop keepers on the road  will start complaning as they will loose business! Besides, people using the road will always have to be alert for missible falling on their head from the skywalk! Given the number of flyovers which have fallen in our country, there is also a possibility that the entire skywalk may fall on you head if you are not very careful.

Anyway money is being spent on the skywalk and a lot of people will line their pockets with our taxes.

Crown of trees!

Times of India, Mumbai edition dated 17th July 2008 reported the figures of the recently concluded tree census conducted by BMC (Brihanmumbai Muncipal Corporation).

The humble suburb of Bhandup stood out as the leader among all the BMC wards in Mumbai. The table below shows the final statistics.

Region Ward Count
Bhandup S 159217
Andheri East K-East 156508
Borivli R-Central 144790
Andheri West K-West 136262
Malad P-North 121075
Chembur M-West 105631
Trombay M-East 92445
Kandivli R-South 84510
Mulund T 84187
Goregaon P-South 83862
Bandra West H-West 83176
Wadala F-North 82117
Bandra East H-East 74092
Dahisar R-North 67828
Kurla L 67758
Nana Chowk D 58207
Parel F-South 54330
Prabhadevi G-South 45912
Dadar G-North 43341
Colaba A 41838
Byculla E 39270
Mohammed Ali Road B 6786
Chandanwadi C 3919

Considering the fact that a major part of Bhandup East is salt pan land with little scope for trees, the suburb is well placed. Hope the trees multiply in geometric progression and generations to come benefit from it.
